In March 2018, ADEA fielded the revised ADEA Survey of Dental School Seniors (ADEA SDSS). The revised survey includes new topic areas, such as well-being, ADEA Chapter participation and licensure pathways. Additionally, for the first time,10 Canadian dental schools (faculties of dentistry) are participating in the ADEA SDSS.
Research—promote the importance of research as the foundation of dental education, and of the science and practice of dentistry.
ADEA Launches Revised Senior Survey and Includes Canadian Dental School Seniors
Dental Education’s Response to Address the Opioid Crisis
Dental schools play a pivotal role in shaping the future of dental practice and preparing faculty and dental students to effectively address pain management and respond to the opioid public health emergency. At the request of the ADEA Council of Deans, an update on dental education actions to address the crisis was developed and distributed to all deans in December. In addition, a survey of all dental schools will be distributed in January 2019 to collect information on curricular and clinical changes made by each institution and to document innovative approaches and outcomes to share across schools and programs.
ADEA Conducts Joint Research With NIDCR
ADEA Enid A. Neidle Scholar-in-Residence Nathalia Garcia, D.D.S., M.S., in collaboration with ADEA and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), initiated and conducted the first-ever joint research project exploring funding differences by gender in obtaining NIDCR or NIH awards. ADEA’s commitment to academic dentistry research is evident through this research project and the Association will continue to foster relationships with the NIDCR and NIH to explore other collaboration and research opportunities.
